Wells

A water well is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, driving, boring or drilling to access groundwater in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn by an electric submersible pump, a vertical turbine pump, a hand pump or a mechanical pump (e.g. from a water-pumping windmill. It can also be drawn up using containers, such as buckets, that are raised mechanically or by hand.

Aqua Sprinklers are experienced in all types of water well construction utilizing cable tool, dual tube, reverse circulation and the direct rotary drilling method.

Shallow Wells

A shallow well is jetted in the ground with a garden hose. Shallow wells go down around 24” deep. For shallow wells most of the time you go past the water and have to come up. With shallow wells you should put 1 well per quarter horse power of your pump. Say you have a 1 horse power you would need 4 wells. Each well should pump at least 5 gallons per minute.

Deep Well

There are 2 ways to drill a deep well.
One is called a cable drill and the other is a rotary drill. A cable drill bangs the pipe in the ground a rotary drills a hole. A deep well usually have a 4” casing but go 2” 3” 6” 8”. With a deep well the water is in the casing. Depending on the lift would determine what kind of pump if your lift is 18” or less, you could have a pump above the ground. If deeper than 18” you should put a submersible pump down. That will go in the 4” casing with submersible wire and drop pipe that pipes in the pump.

How Do Rid O' Rust Formulas Work to Prevent Rust Stains?

Preventing stains before they cover your walks, siding, plants, and lawn furniture is KEY. With the Rid O'Rust product line, this is a very simple and inexpensive process. The plusses of prevention include:

  • No need to repaint every year
  • Ugly stains won't form on your walks and plants
  • Mineral deposits and scaling won't form on your sprinkler system, ensuring longer system life
  • You can use free well water for irrigation as opposed to expensive municipal water
The Low Down: How Does It Work?
rid-rust
The Rid O'Rust Formula products are a family of "chelating" chemicals. Each is specific to certain well water conditions and applications; Formula 1000 is used for "acidic" well water and Formula 2000 for "hard" well water, for instance. These chelating chemicals have in common that if they can attach themselves to the ferrous iron in the well water before it meets oxygen at the sprinkler head, the iron will chelate or bind up so that it will not combine with oxygen. In effect, we neutralize the iron, but do not remove it!

Most areas now have reclaimed water. Reclaimed water is good for your grass and is usually easyto hook up. You will need to check with Pinellas County Utilities to wee what you will need for the connection. Most of the areas require you to have your sprinkler in good working order, and require a ball valve. We like to use a filer.

man watering lawnInstead of dragging water hoses and sprinklers around the yard all summer, Aqua Sprinklers can design and install a year-around irrigation system to keep all your plants and flowers beautiful.  We do full irrigation planning, sprinkler design, and control box installation.

Aqua Sprinklers will custom-design and install your new sprinkler system to give the most efficient, cost effective lawn sprinkler possible. Zone landscape areas to water according to watering needs. Landscape areas in full shade (between houses, for example) need less water than full sun areas. Proper zoning of your system will cost more to install but save you money in the future as well as save our most precious resource - water!

 Pump Repair

There are three (3) different types of pumps used for irrigation systems in Florida.

The first kind of pump  is a submersible pump. A submersible pump sits in a 4" casing  in the water. The pump will push the water up. A 1HP pump & motor will put out apox. 30 gallons per minute and will build about 60 pumps of pressure.

The second pump is a centrifugal pump. This pump sucks the water and will put out aprox. 20-30 gallons per minute depending on the draw and will only nuild about 38lbs if pressure. This pump is not good on a pressure system. It is only good with a pump start relay.

The last pump is a Jet pump. The Jet pump works the same way as a Centrifugal pump. The jet pump won't put as much water out but will build up aprox. 50-60lbs if pressure and works good on a pressure system.

Solutions to Common Sprinkler Problems

System not shutting down
Open & shut gate valve to loosen whatever maybe blocking closure of valve

Sprinkler being blocked by a plant or other object
• Keep the plant pruned back to prevent blockage. Check regularly.
• Add an extension or riser on the PVC piping.
• Relocate the sprinkler out in front of the obstruction. If necessary, adjust or replace the nozzle.
• If in a plant bed, replace sprinklers with micro-irrigation devices that can be moved as plants grow. Micro-irrigation is not permitted on lawn grass.

Sprinkler being blocked by lawn/grass
• Replace sprinkler with a model that pops up higher. (6” or 12”)
• Add an extension between the PVC pipe and the sprinkler.
• Clean grass around the sprinkler and install a concrete “donut".

Water is squirting out around the sprinkler head
• Check sprinkler head, piping and fittings under the sprinkler for leaks.
• Check rubber or plastic seal inside the top of the sprinkler for debris and wear; replace with recommended seal if it is damaged or worn.
• Spray nozzles and rotor heads may need cleaning.
• Replacement of sprinkler may be needed.

Time clock is not operating
• Make sure it is plugged into a working outlet and switched to “on” or “automatic”.
• Make sure that the backup battery is not corroded or low on charge.
• Has it rained recently? Perhaps the rain sensor is interrupting clock operation. This is normal until the cork disc dries out.
> May have a cut wire.

Rotor sprinkler does not rotate correctly
• Check to ensure the sprinkler or the piping below it is not clogged.
• Check if there is adequate pressure in the zone to operate this type of sprinkler. Another nozzle with a lower flow rate may need to be installed.
• The sprinkler may be broken.
• If the head is at the end of the main water supply line for your system, there may not be enough pressure to operate the sprinkler properly. The head should be capped.

Spray head sprinkler not putting out any and/or little water
• Check to ensure the sprinkler, nozzle, filters or piping are not clogged or broken. A break in the system causes diminished pressure, which would cause loss of coverage.

drip irrigation

Drip irrigation is the most efficient method of irrigating for crops or lawns. While sprinkler systems are around 75-85% efficient, drip systems typically are 90% or higher. What that means is much less wasted water. For this reason drip is the preferred method of irrigation in the desert regions of the United States. But drip irrigation has other benefits which make it useful almost anywhere. It is easy to install, easy to design, can be very inexpensive, and can reduce disease problems associated with high levels of moisture on some plants.

Drip irrigation (sometimes called trickle irrigation) works by applying water slowly, directly to the soil, such as in a flower bed or garden. The high efficiency of drip irrigation results from two primary factors. The first is that the water soaks into the soil before it can evaporate or run off. The second is that the water is only applied where it is needed, (at the plant's roots) rather than sprayed everywhere. While drip systems are simple and pretty forgiving of errors in design and installation, there are some guidelines that if followed, will make for a much better drip system. Aqua Sprinklers uses materials and methods that will increase the benefits of your new drip system, while steering you away from some common problems that can cause you trouble.

Water drainageWater Drainage - A yard that doesn't drain properly can cause problems with grass growth, bugs, and even foundational issues in the home. Drainage systems are easier to install than you might expect, but they take some planning to make them work properly. Designing a drainage system is the most important step in the entire installation process, and by considering a few facts about water and how it moves you'll be able to customize a system that fits your yard perfectly.
